Roof Beam Reader is hosting a Moby-Dick Read-Along from June 1 through July 15. The length of the book as well as its subject matter intimidate me, but I do need to leave the Middle Ages from time to time. 😉 I only have to read 15 pages a day for the read-along, so it should be quite manageable.
Think of it as a experience; you are right there on the journey with the narrator. Whether you end up liking MD or not, you’ll never forget it.
Good luck! I have read Moby Dick last year, and really enjoyed it.
Ah Moby Dick… I have such conflicted feelings about this book! It has one of the most famous character motivations of all literature, and adore many parts of the book. But there are a good many dry bits on the history and symbolism of whaling (unless you’re into that?).
I hope you like it even more than I did, because as Ruth said, it is an unforgettable book, no matter what. 🙂
Don’t have anything more to say than what the other commentators have said. Love it or hate it, it’s one hell of an experience.
Have fun reading, and there’s no need to restrict yourself to 15 pages a day. Some parts of it are dry, but towards the end you”ll be sitting up late nights reading about the hunt.
It’s time! We’re totally gonna rock it. 🙂
Yup. I just started! 🙂
