Today’s Literary Flashback is one entry from Pascal’s Pensées:
La vérité est si obscurcie en ce temps et le mensonge si établi qu’à moins d’aimer la vérité, on ne saurait la reconnaître.
Truth is so obscure in these times, and falsehood so established, that, unless we love the truth, we cannot know it.
This is a quote I could think about all day. I agree that seeking truth is hard way and requires devotion and the world does offer so many well-paved pleasant paths that may be comfortable but fall far short living according to truth. It makes me think of the well-presented tourist areas on beautiful islands that hide the squalor and poverty that support them. I once wandered behind the stage curtain on a trip to the Bahamas. Love Pascal! He is one of my gurus.
